The Secretary of the Council for National Security and Defense, Alexey Danilov, believes that Ukraine’s full membership in NATO will provide a secure guarantee for the country’s security. “Our country’s full membership in NATO is a secure guarantee for our security. However, I emphasize, full membership. Some are now promoting options for some kind of mixture, for some ‘soft’ membership and the like. In the modern world, it doesn’t work that way,” he explained in an interview with RBC-Ukraine. According to Danilov, the guarantee for Ukraine’s security is first and foremost the Ukrainians, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and access to modern weapons.
In early September, Ukraine submitted a request for accelerated accession to NATO. At that time, the Secretary-General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, stressed that the decision to join must be approved by all 30 member states of the bloc. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine would like to have security guarantees on the path to NATO. According to him, Ukraine has already shown its power on the battlefield.
