The problem of bomb threats is still a major issue and we have not yet found an appropriate solution, which is why we continue to receive reports. Due to the lack of a suitable solution, the intensity of bomb threats is increasing, said Zlate Dimovski, a professor at the Faculty of Security, in an interview with Radio Free Europe.
He added that the anonymous callers are becoming bolder since they cannot be identified, which is why there was even a bomb threat at the highly secured presidential residence. They are encouraged by the fact that they cannot be caught or prevented from carrying out their intentions, which is why daily bomb threats at schools and institutions continue with the same intensity.
Bomb threats have also occurred in the region, and Professor Dimovski believes that local authorities have found a way to prevent these threats through providers.
It is obvious that we need to respond at the state level and seek their experience, knowledge, and skills, which they applied in that context, to obtain such data on how to act, and normally, we need to apply the same solution here, because we have almost the same type of bomb threat reports, added Dimovski for RFE.
On a journalist’s question whether the approach supposedly used in Serbia, namely not informing the public if there are bombs, is a good practice, the professor indicated that it is good, but it would be unreasonable to do so here, especially when it affects our population the most.
This principle is good, but it would be unreasonable to do this when we have evidence that it is happening in front of us. It happens with our children, in certain public institutions, and whether we report it or not, most citizens will find out. The goal of those who do this is to gain more publicity, to spread this phenomenon, and simply achieve that fear effect. They have achieved that fear effect and are emboldened, Dimovski noted.
The anonymous callers simply want to spread these rumors, and these rumors have already deeply penetrated our consciousness, thus achieving a certain negative psychological effect on us, concluded Professor Dimovski.
