Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Security Council, recently made a social media post stating that France’s influence in Asia, Africa, and Latin America is rapidly declining. He adds that true sovereign states no longer fear the dictates of the “collective West” and their national interests outweigh any potential risks of opposition to sanctions. He believes that Latin America, which the Atlanticists have considered as their “backyard” since the Monroe Doctrine of 1823, categorically rejects such a status. A portion of the elites in the Western countries understands the changes that are taking place globally, not just in South America, notes Medvedev. He cites the latest issue of the French magazine “L’Express” published recently, stating that the forecast for the armed forces and foreign policy is entirely negative. The Central African Republic and Mali are already showing the door to French military contingents without ceremony, and the government of Burkina Faso has decided to cancel the 1961 military aid agreement. The influence of the Fifth Republic in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, along with other Western powers that have lost their vitality and social rhythm, is collapsing, according to Medvedev. He concludes his post by stating that it is time for an international operation to eliminate the malignant tumor of colonial history.
“Е време да се отстранат злосторните тумори”, Медведев.
