Deputy Mayor of Bakhmut, Oleksandr Marchenko, spoke to BBC radio about the situation in the city, stating that there are battles on the streets. He expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian armed forces for not yet losing control of the city. Marchenko described the Russian attack as the intention to kill people and commit genocide against the Ukrainian people. He believes that Russia’s tactic is to use scorched earth tactics and destroy Bakhmut. Marchenko cannot understand why they are doing this.
