The representative of the Macedonian community in Albania in the Committee for National Minorities, Marjana Kostovski, requested education in their native language for Macedonians in areas where their concentration is higher, from the Central Election Commission (CEC) for the local elections.
During the meeting with the President of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, as representatives of the Committee, Kostovski praised the decision of the commission to print educational election material in minority languages, including Macedonian, and requested education for Macedonians in other areas as well, such as Golo Brdo, Gora, and cities where the concentration is higher.
She also welcomed the immediate correction by the commission in an educational poster, where the Macedonian community in Albania was named “national minority of Macedonia,” which was changed to “Macedonian national minority” as officially recognized in Albania.
The CEC acknowledged and respected this basic right of minorities and discussed with minority representatives to find the best means and ways to inform and educate minorities in their native languages about electoral issues.
For the local elections on May 14, the CEC approved a special program for informing and raising awareness of voters belonging to national minorities in Albania. Kostovski thanked the Vice-President Sead Kazandziu, who is a representative of the Romani national minority, on behalf of the committee for the meeting, which was held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.
