Real Madrid once again dropped points in the race for the Spanish title, as they only managed a 0-0 draw away at Real Betis in Sevilla. After a 1-1 draw in the city derby against Atletico and Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Valencia today, Carlo Ancelotti’s team now trails their Catalan rivals by nine points. Karim Benzema had a goal disallowed for handball in the 12th minute, and despite dominating possession with over 60%, Real could not find their way to the goal. In the 79th minute, Real protested for a penalty after a challenge on Benzema, but it was not awarded. Betis remains in fifth place in the table with 41 points, three behind fourth-placed Real Sociedad. Real are nine points behind Barca but eight points ahead of Atletico Madrid.
