It is likely that by the end of the week, there will be a decision regarding the prices of pasta and spaghetti, with a minimum reduction of 10% from current prices, announced the Minister of Economy, Kreshnik Bekteshi, last night. In an interview on TV 24, he said he was convinced that the reduction would be even greater and announced that decisions would follow for cooking oil and dairy products.
Although it was expected that the government would not make any new decisions tomorrow regarding freezing prices of other food products, following the decision that was made for bread, the minister explained that comprehensive analyses were being done.
“The pasta that is currently sold for 51 denars will no longer be more than 44 denars, and those that are sold for 60 denars will not be more than 52 denars. There will be a large reduction in this area,” said Bekteshi.
By the end of the week, he announced a further decision would be made for other products, where dairy products would generally come in. He expects all domestic producers to have a price below 100 denars for cooking oil in the next 10 days.
“This week we are talking about pasta, and the analysis for dairy products is coming to an end. I expect to follow the example of a company that came out with lower prices today than other dairy product manufacturers. If not, then by the end of the week, there will be a decision for dairy products,” said Bekteshi, noting that he is in contact with cooking oil producers who announced that the price would be below 100 denars in the next 10 days.
Bekteshi also assessed that the eurobond issued was a great success and emphasized that “all the hysterics and dramas in the public that the state is not doing its job fall in the water.”
“This is evidence that the government’s institutions are stable and that work is being done to improve the overall situation in the country,” said Bekteshi, noting that state expenses would be a total of 6.3%.
For us, Bekteshi pointed out, it is important that there was four times greater interest from investors within just one month.
Minister Bekteshi rejected former finance minister Trajko Slaveski’s claims that the reconstruction of the government caused 18 million euros in damage due to the lack of coordination among government departments for issuing the eurobond.
“We paid a high price for the lack of coordination among institutions. In the future, someone will be responsible for the damage,” said Slaveski.
