It is believed that a 29-year-old man strangled the scientist with a belt and then fled the scene. The police have arrested a suspect who has confessed to the crime. Botikov had been working at the Gamaleya National Research Center since 2014 and was part of the team that developed the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus. His death comes just two weeks after the alleged suicide of Russian Major General Vladimir Makarov, who was relieved of his duties.
