According to the first member of the Wagner group, Evgeny Prigozhin, Serbia’s outrage is pointless because there are no Serbs in their ranks.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that all Serbs who are recruited into Wagner and participate in the war in Ukraine will be arrested upon their return home. Prigozhin said that Vučić’s anger is pointless.
“As of March 1, 2023, there are no Serbs in Wagner. The last person who fought in Wagner left the group two months ago. If any Serbs claim to have fought in Wagner in 2023, it’s a fraud. Don’t believe them,” Prigozhin said.
Previously, there were videos of Serbs who had gone to fight with the Russians in Zaporizhzhia. They claimed to be fighting against the evil of the West. Last year, the media reported that several Serbian citizens had died on the battlefields in Ukraine. They were Serbs of Russian origin.
