The owner of the mining giant Norilsk Nickel, Vladimir Potanin, leads the ranking as the richest Russian businessman, with an estimated wealth of $28.5 billion. In second place is Leonid Mikhelson, co-owner of Russia’s second-largest natural gas producer, Novatek. He earned $516 million and increased his wealth to $25.1 billion. Vladimir Lisin, the minority shareholder of the Russian steel company NLMK, is the third richest Russian businessman. He earned $905 million annually and increased his wealth to $20.8 billion. He is followed by Alexei Mordashov, the president of the giant Severstal, whose wealth increased by $1.54 billion to a total of $20.2 billion. The fifth richest person on the list is the co-owner of the mobile operator MegaFon, Alisher Usmanov, who earned $738 million in the last two months, bringing his total wealth to $19.2 billion. The list includes Vagit Alekperov, the former head of Lukoil, who earned the most at the beginning of the year, specifically $2.43 billion, bringing his total wealth to $17.8 billion. The Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranks the world’s 500 richest people, including 22 Russians.
