Rescue services have extracted several injured people from a six-storey building in the Turkish city of Şanlıurfa, which collapsed after being damaged in the devastating earthquakes on February 6, according to the Anadolu agency. Following the two earthquakes, measuring 7.7 and 7.6 on the Richter scale, which struck southeastern Turkey and northern Syria a month ago, a series of consecutive aftershocks followed. The six-storey building in Şanlıurfa was damaged after the first two strong earthquakes but did not collapse. Consecutive earthquakes affected the building’s structure, which eventually collapsed. The agency reports that emergency workers called on everyone near the site to be quiet so they could hear sounds coming from beneath the rubble. Nearly two million people were left homeless in Turkey after the earthquake. Many were accommodated in tent camps, but some began to return to their damaged homes.
