The Democratic Union demands the abolishment of privileges for former presidents in Macedonia. According to the party, they have initiated several procedures to revoke the rights of the President and his family after leaving office, but Parliament did not accept these initiatives.
“The Law on the rights of the President after leaving office, among other things, provides the following privileges: a pension equal to the salary received as President, offices, three employees, security, an official car and driver, as well as a budget of over 30,000 euros per year,” the party stated.
Apart from the family of the late former President Boris Trajkovski, who adequately use only a portion of these rights, former Presidents Branko Crvenkovski and Gjorge Ivanov use all the privileges in full.
The Democratic Union believes that significant funds are unnecessarily spent, as former presidents do not perform any activities and their personal security is not at risk. Additionally, their previous role did not have a significant impact on the country, according to the party’s statement.
The party calls on the Constitutional Court to initiate a procedure for abolishing the privileges of the Macedonian President after leaving office.
