According to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bujar Osmani, the inclusion of the Bulgarian minority in the constitution is important for two reasons. Firstly, it provides guidance on how Macedonian-Bulgarian relations will be established in the future. Osmani stresses that while the Republic of Bulgaria has been trying to put these relations in a historical context, Macedonia has found a solution by making the communication between the Macedonian majority and the Bulgarian minority more effective. This will pave the way for relations between the two countries, and the two peoples.
Secondly, Osmani emphasizes that the resolution of this question is essential for the continuation of the negotiations for EU membership. He believes that a non-partisan consensus needs to be reached and that all aspects of the constitutional changes need to be analyzed, removing all political interests. Osmani assures that arguments that support these changes will dominate the expert and political arena.
In the interview, Osmani also discusses Macedonia’s role as the current OSCE Chair in the reinvention of the world’s collective security architecture, the consolidation of Macedonian-Bulgarian relations, and the role of the US in this process. He further elaborates on the aspects of regional stability from the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
Detailed aspects of the interview will be published on the Racin.mk portal on Saturday, March 3rd.
