Bread shortages are being witnessed in Skopje due to the freezing of bread prices by the government. Bakeries are calling for a solution with the government to solve the issue. Goran Malisic, the President of the Group of Milling-Bakery Industry, explained that one possible solution is to find a specific type of bread with the cheapest price and weight to be sold at a regulated price, while other types of bread are not regulated to allow the market to function. They await a call from the government to work for the benefit of all, protect companies, and find a solution. According to Malisic, losses are huge as 85% of companies’ production is restricted. The bakeries are not worried about calls from Kosovo bakers who have stated that they are willing to deliver cheap bread to North Macedonia. Malisic pointed out that this was not prohibited until now and that they are not worried about it. The government’s decision to freeze the price of white bread will be valid until May 31st.
