The President of SDSM, Dimitar Kovacevski, sent a message on International Women’s Day to the Women’s Forum within SDSM in Prilep, stating that the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia has always recognized and respected the power and ability of women who have held and still hold important positions both in the government and in the party. “An example of this is the appointment of Kaja Shukova as Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, where there is a 50-50 representation of women and men in ministerial positions appointed from SDSM,” Kovacevski said. He also mentioned Sanja Lukarevska, the Deputy President of SDSM, who is a successful director of the Public Revenue Office, and Bisera Kostadinovska Stojchevska, the Vice President of SDSM and the Minister of Culture, as examples. The President also mentioned Jovana Trencheska, the current Minister responsible for gender policies, within the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, who is the President of the Women’s Forum and a fierce advocate of equality in all aspects. He said that it is good that North Macedonia has a female Minister of Defence, their colleague Slavjanka Petrovska, in the current conditions of war on the European continent. Kovacevski also highlighted the importance of gender equality in politics, stating that politics, governments and parliaments propose and carry laws that guarantee human rights and, therefore, gender rights.
