The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced additional technical support from the EU for the Greek railway and a visit from European experts on the railway accident with 57 fatalities, after her conversation this morning with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Von der Leyen tweeted that she and Mitsotakis discussed “the additional technical support that the EU can provide to Greece to modernize its railways and improve their safety.” She added that experts from the EC and the European railway agency will be in Athens this week.
Mitsotakis also thanked the President of the EC via Twitter for the quick response to Greece’s request and stated that they are determined to mobilize all available resources and are grateful for the help of their European partners.
