The Ukrainian army has reported numerous attacks in the area of Eastern Donetsk over the past 24 hours. However, Russian forces claim to be preparing to conquer the eastern city of Bahmut – the focus of intense battles over the past several months. The head of the Russian private army, Wagner, asserts that “Bahmut is practically surrounded” with limited exit strategies. All supply routes and withdrawal paths for the Ukrainian army from Bahmut are within the range of artillery fire. “We successfully captured a strategic hill from where the surrounding area and all access roads north of Bahmut can be seen. We can see that those access roads are no longer passable and as such, it makes it difficult for the enemy to move,” a member of Wagner told Sputnik. The forces of the Wagner group are currently cutting off the supply routes of the Ukrainian army from the town of Chasiv Yar near Artemivsk (Ukrainian name – Bahmut). The artillery fire is constantly active. As soon as any movement is detected, they immediately open fire, causing them great trouble. They shoot with precision, but the enemy is not foolish enough to engage in such tactics – they make other routes, additional to those on the maps. The weather has a negative impact, with the roads becoming muddy, heavy equipment sinking, becoming stuck, and wherever it stops, others start moving, making it an excellent target. Overall, all roads leading to Bahmut are being targeted, said a fighter of Wagner. Previously, the founder of the Wagner group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announced that the group’s fighters had practically surrounded Artemivsk and called for their surrender. At the same time, Sky News correspondent Alex Rossi reports that the situation in Artemivsk is becoming increasingly difficult for the Ukrainian units day by day and that they will soon surrender the city.
