The earthquake that hit Turkey caused Nergis and Cumali Bakajli to lose all trace of their premature 6.5-month-old baby. After days of worry and distress, the Turkish couple finally received relief when they learned that their baby was alive and well. Numerous media outlets in the country are covering the fairytale-like story after the earthquake. The couple’s baby was being treated in a hospital in Karamanmaraş due to bleeding on the brain after premature birth. After the earthquakes damaged this hospital, the baby was first transferred to the city hospital in Mersin, then to the medical faculty hospital at Selçuk University. The Bakajli couple began searching for their child after the earthquake. The hospital staff in Selçuk contacted the parents and told them that the baby was with them, alive and well. In an interview with Turkish media, the mother stated that it is now time for the “family to be reunited”. The father, Nergis Bakajli, is overjoyed to have finally heard about their daughter.
