Pope Francis has called on authorities to prevent smugglers from taking migrants across the Mediterranean and expressed regret over the shipwreck off the Italian coast in which dozens lost their lives last week. The Pope repeated his appeal to prevent such tragedies from happening again. Local authorities say that 70 bodies have been recovered so far from the shipwreck near the Italian coast. Around 80 migrants survived after the boat sank near the town of Stilo Calabro. It is estimated that there were around 200 people on board the boat which had been carrying migrants from Turkey to Italy. The three suspected smugglers were arrested last week and prosecutors are investigating how emergency services responded to the disaster. There have been accusations that authorities reacted too slowly.
Папата повика на прекинување на контрабандата со мигрантите во Средоземното Море.
