Starting tomorrow, bakers will deliver bread at the frozen price of 33 Macedonian denars ($0.65), but they plan to seek damages through legal action because of the losses they claim to have suffered due to the government’s decision to freeze prices. After intensive consultations with legal experts from the country and abroad, it has been established that the government’s decisions are constitutional and illegal. The damage, until May 31 when the decision is expected to last, will amount to more than EUR 4.5 million. The battle will continue on a legal basis. The bakers agreed to start delivery of certain types of bread, depending on the possibilities of each baker. The president of the Association of Milling-Bakery Industries, Goran Malisic, said that the industry would respect the measures, but legal action would be taken to claim damages. The government decided to determine the obligation of traders to purchase and sell certain types and quantities of separate goods to consumers, based on a legal basis. The decision establishes an obligation for traders who represent legal and physical entities registered to carry out trade activities in a specific registry in accordance with the law, as well as for traders who represent legal and physical entities registered for production, who sell their products in the market in their own stores or to other wholesale and retail traders in food products, to purchase and/or sell plain and semi-plain bread (cut into pieces or whole).
