I’m still a beginner when it comes to knowing the Macedonian wine scene, but I am aware what the name HERMES means. Contemporary history of winemaking in Macedonia can’t be understood, not even mentioned, without taking into account the achievements of this legend. I’ve had the chance to drink many wines that were brought into being by the ingenuity of late Gjorgji Jovanov. There’s no doubt these drops calibrated my sensing apparatus and created a standard I still use in discovering wines from Macedonia . With Hermes Jr it’s the other way around. I’ve read all that can be read online about @danejovanov and I am familiar with the facts of his professional path. It’s all remarkable and respectable. If I say I can’t divide a wine from the context it originates from, it’s understandable I had expectations from his wine.
This #merlot is so corpulent, that it undoubtedly belongs to reality. The mosaic on the label gives a sense of dimension. Building blocks that confirm the interpretation is real, though the feeling it creates belongs to something mystical & antique, yet very refined. When square pieces build a high resolution picture, it has to be a piece of art. Classicism that never goes out of style. The next aspect that possessed my attention is a strong association with nature. Pure beauty lended from mother Earth, not taken (or stolen) by any means. Inspiration that was crafted into this flowy, blood-redbeauty of a wine.
Nose is abundant with red berries , followed by notes of freshly prepared hot milk chocolate. Smoothness of custard meets crunchiness of cherries in the mouth, crowned by herbal freshness & deepness. Tannins are pearly: smooth & slippery, making the wine pass the barriers of the sensing system effortlessly, with awareness of their presence. Like caviar spheres, playing uncatchable for the tongue until the luxury melts and overwhelms the senses. 15% abv is magically balanced and takes over gently. Youth in the glass for fresh vision of the world. Still, time makes us wiser; it unlocks the secrets and shows what can’t be seen now. I’m sure it will bring only greatness to the future.
