The Minister of Defense of North Macedonia, Slavjanka Petrovska, emphasized the importance and respect for women in the military. Since 2012, there has been a doubling in the percentage of women in the military, including women officers. There are now seven female colonels compared to just one 11 years ago. Additionally, women hold 48% of leadership positions in the Ministry of Defense. Petrovska is proud to have appointed the first female chief of section within the General Staff of the Army, based on her qualifications and values rather than gender. The ministry aims to continue breaking stereotypes by valuing the persistence, endurance, and wisdom of women in the military.
