This was stated at a meeting in Brussels between Vice-Premier for European Affairs Bojan Marichich and the EU Representative for the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajchak. Marichich emphasized the need for policies based on European values that look forward to a clear EU perspective, offering stability, prosperity, and wellbeing for citizens. The Secretary was informed of the progress of the dialogue between Prishtina and Belgrade and welcomed the new opportunity to close open issues. The agreement to have Ohrid as the location for talks on normalizing relations between Belgrade and Prishtina, with Prime Minister Dimitar Kovačevski hosting the meeting, is a sign that Macedonia is synonym for constructive dialogue, maturity, and responsibility in the region.
The meeting also discussed the domestic political situation, open issues in the region, and the importance of a clear plan to unite the Western Balkans with the EU. Lajchak was briefed on the progress of the screening process and it was expressed that Macedonia needs to quickly progress on reforms and maintain continuity of the accession process with the EU. The meeting was held as part of Marichich’s visit to Brussels, where he will take part in bilateral screening formations for Cluster 2 – Internal Market.
