In the Turkish city of Hatay, which was one of the hardest hit by the two destructive earthquakes on February 6, a dog was rescued from the rubble 25 days after the earthquake. Rescue teams from AFAD and other services were working to remove the debris in Antakya, Hatay when they heard a sound under one of the piles of rubble, prompting a search. After a successful search and rescue operation, the terrier was pulled out from under the debris, alive and well. It was discovered that the dog had managed to find food under the rubble and survived while trapped. The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic after being rescued. When the debris was removed from the same location, the body of a person was found, believed to be the owner of the rescued dog. According to reports from Agence France-Presse, more than 50,000 people were killed in the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria on February 6.
