The Macedonian Ministry of Finance has successfully completed an auction for the issuance of its ninth eurobond, with four times higher interest from investors compared to the offered amount. The auction raised €500m with a coupon rate of 6.96%, and an additional €100m from the European Commission’s macro-financial support instrument at an approximate interest rate of 3%, according to the Ministry of Finance. These funds will be used for refinancing the eurobond issued in 2016 and other previous debt payments. The rest of the funds required for the 2023 budget will be obtained through favourable loans from international financial institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, at lower interest rates to support long-term policies and contribute to economic growth. The eurobond was initially supposed to be issued last month but was delayed because there was no one to sign it. The Minister of Justice, whose signature is necessary, had already resigned at that point. His deputy, who was waiting to be appointed as Deputy Minister for Education and Science, was allowed to sign the bond.
